ABOUT DAVE
I am a professional musician, composer, and multidisciplinary creative with a deep passion for the transformative power of sound. I studied flute and composition at the Royal Welsh College of Music, and more recently continued my artistic development at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I focused on field recording and composition.
My work is driven by a fascination with the sounds of the natural world and their profound effect on our inner lives. Through my music and recordings, I seek to capture the essence of environments and translate them into immersive auditory experiences that help people reconnect with both nature and themselves. From the gentle whispers of a forest to the powerful resonance of the ocean, I believe these sounds hold the capacity to soothe, heal, and inspire.
As a performer, I have had the privilege of playing in a range of renowned cultural spaces, including the National Portrait Gallery, The Whitworth in Manchester, and Tate Liverpool. I have also performed solo at both the Houses of Parliament and the European Parliament, bringing my work into unique and meaningful settings.
I am a multi-instrumentalist, performing across a diverse range of instruments including flutes (with a particular focus on bass flute), handpan, didgeridoo, and windsynth. My practice incorporates multi-layered looping, live sound design, and experimental performance techniques, enabling me to create evolving, immersive soundscapes in real time.
Alongside my performance work, I compose site-responsive and environmentally inspired music. I have composed two pieces for the Gaia installation at Chester Cathedral, reflecting the sounds and rhythms of the Earth and our connection to it. I am also developing Biosonica, a sound project designed for public spaces, which is currently being used regularly at Hammersmith Hospital in collaboration with Imperial Health Charity.
My recent compositional work continues to explore the relationship between music and the natural world, including the completion of three duets for piano and nature, further deepening my investigation into blending acoustic instruments with environmental sound.
Join me on this sonic journey and discover the beauty, depth, and tranquility that music and nature can bring to your life.
